One for "Peace"
"Leave them alone, to enjoy (the good things of this life) and to please themselves: let (false) Hope amuse them: soon will knowledge (undeceive them)."[Qur'an 15:3]

Seems like someone missed this one, I am looking at YOU Usama!

Even a verse that advocates peace (one of very few so far) comes off as a threat. In all fairness, there is a great deal of this sort of smugness in Christianity as well. This verse sums up the feelings expressed in a number of emails and face-to-face discussions I have had with Christians.

CAT Protest
I spent the day yesterday at the StopCAT coalition protest in Peoria, Illinois. Took a bunch of pictures (and some of them even turned out...). Had a great time and I feel like I did some good in the world. Even if it was just to raise the blood pressure of some of the moonbats. I lost count of the number of times I was called a Nazi, a racist, and Zionist pig. (despite reports to the contrary, I can count rather high...)

Here are some observations:

We were in the path of the Corries as they came to the rally point. We were civil (hiding some of our signs) and they were also civil. I was prepared to "give 'em some what-for" about being rotten parents, but then I really felt sorry for them. They have had their memory of their daughter stolen from them by this foolish cause. As a parent, I wept for them... Until I saw the news coverage... The early news was very balanced, but there was a new edit for the 10:00pm news that really went too far in the protester's side. The Corries showed that my first thoughts about them were correct... Too bad for them...

On my way back to the car I happened to be behind an older couple (about 75-80) walking back to their car as well. The woman got tired and set up a camp style stool to sit and rest. As I walked past, se smiled at me and said "Great march riiii", at that point she saw my sign (Pro-democracy in the middle east) and called me (for the 1000th time) a racist Zionist pig and literally spat at me. I said, "and you kiss your grandchildren with those lips" and hurried away. Nice old lady...

LGF has an article on my pics!

UPDATE: Peoria Pundit has also commented on the pictures!

Rantings
No verse in this post, just some musings (read: non-PC rant) and a link.

I have passed over a number of verses in the past week that did not call out to be posted, but together reinforce my feelings that the Qur'an is the work of a man who is more interested in conquest and control of a population than in the truth of religion. See my April 1st Post

The references to "a Surah being sent against" a certain group screams this to me. The constant drumbeat of "a grievous penalty" is getting a bit tiring.

I was referred to this from a poster on LGF. I have not read the full text, but the premise is very interesting and tells me that I am not alone in my thought that the Qur'an is a tremendous fraud brought about by a man with worldly goals.

"What is the matter with you"
"O you who believe! what is the matter with you, that, when you are asked to go forth in the Cause of Allah, you cling heavily to the earth? Do you prefer the life of this world to the Hereafter? But little is the comfort of this life, as compared with the Hereafter. Unless you go forth, He will punish you with a grievous penalty, and put others in you place; but Him you would not harm in the least. For Allah has power over all things." [Qur'an 9:38-39]

From the Qur'an, but could easily been from the mouth of Abdel Aziz Rantisi as he sent his followers into Israel to kill random people. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

More fighting (why the fighting?) also Establish regular prayers
"But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans wherever you find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every strategem (of war); but if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practice regular charity, then open the way for them: for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful." [Qur'an 9:5]

Use all means to kill them and establish an Islamic way of life in the survivors.

"How can there be a league, before Allah and His Messenger, with Pagans, except those with whom you made a treaty near the Sacred Mosque? As long as these stand true to you, you stand true to them: for Allah loves the righteous. How (can there be such a league), seeing that if they get an advantage over you, they do not respect in you the ties either of kinship or of covenant? With (fair words from) their mouths thet entice you, but their hearts are averse from you; and most of them are rebellious and wicked." [Qur'an 9:7-8]

"Fight those who do not believe in Allah nor in the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which has been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the Religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued." [Qur'an 9:29]

This completely invalidates the UBL offer of a truce with Europe since he did not demand they adopt the true faith or at least pay the charity required by Islam and "feel subdued" and the Europeans (by and large) do not share a "kinship" with the terrorists.

I hope that anyone considering his "offer" reads this and thinks carefully.

Terror
"Let not the Unbelievers think that they can get the better (of the godly): they will never frustrate (them). Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike terror into (the hearts of) the enemies, of Allah and your enemies, and others besides, whom you may not know, but whom Allah knows. Whatever you shall spend in the Cause of Allah, shall be repaid to you, and you shall not be treated unjustly"[Qur'an 8:59-60]

This one says to me to ready whatever weapons you have against the Unbelievers. al-Qaida (and Hamas etc...)doesn't have much (compared to the USA) but it still makes ready for war. UBL clearly believes he will be rewarded greatly in the hereafter due to the vast fortune he has spent "in the cause of Allah".

Few?
"And remember when you met, He showed them to you as few in your eyes, and made you appear as contemptible in their eyes" [Qur'an 8:44]

I wonder if this is the view of those in Iraq that face the Marines. Their inability to see that they are outnumbered, outgunned and completely outmatched may be a sign from Allah to them that their cause is just.

"If you gain the mastery over them in war, disperse, with them, those who follow them, that they may remember" [Qur'an 8:57]

Seems like good advice, divine or not, to scatter the survivors in order to tell the tale of the power of your army.

Looks like Surah 8 is going to be a "humdinger".
Update
Not much to report, between getting (stupidly) absorbed into a "blogwar" and the reading being non-blog-worthy I have not had much to say.

The latest reading has been a retelling of the Exodus story, which seems appropriate for the Passover season.

Destroyed towns?
An now this from the so-called "religion of peace":

"How many towns have We destroyed (for their sins)? Our punishment took them on a sudden by night or while they slept for their afternoon rest. When (thus) Our punishment took them, no cry did they utter but this: 'Indeed we did wrong'" [Qur'an 7:4-5]

This is very frightening because it recalls to me the attacks of 9/11 and 3/11 and the reaction of some in the world to blame President Bush and the USA for the "root causes" of terrorism, thus bringing these kinds of attacks on us. These forces do cry "Indeed we did wrong" and only go in support of the terrorist cause.

Friends and Protectors
"O you who believe! take not Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors: they are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is one of them. Verily Allah guides not a people unjust." [Qur'an 5:51]

This reads like something that a current day Imam might say. The Jews and Christians care nothing for you, so shun them. Christians know this to be in direct opposition to any Christian teaching, but since it is written in the Qur'an, Muslims have no choice but to abide by the ruling.

This is part of the reason I have the feeling that much of what I am reading was written to keep a restive people under control. The Jews and Christians were the world powers at this time. The leaders of a different people needed to fight for followers and threaten the flock into staying put.

No Verse
There is no verse for you in this post, just some thoughts on what I have been reading the past few days ...

It has been quite a while since I have read something that was specific and post-worthy. Most of the material was threatening and moral injunction on being untrue to the faith. There is interspersed in these threats some mention of how the Jews are unworthy of life and the Christians are somewhat misguided and can be converted. The text does not flow in any reasonable order or keep a thought for more than a verse or two.

WARNING: Inflammatory editorial follows ...

This past few days I have had the feeling that what I was reading was the work of a madman that wanted to desperately be believed and followed. This section is filled with dire warnings about the fate of any who does not believe, very few descriptions of what awaits the faithful and many rants on how and who to fight.

I am trying to maintain my original level of objectivity and openness of mind, but I feel myself sliding into the "religion of pieces" camp.
